The Hawks Cross Country teams competed on Saturday, November 12th at the NWAC Cross Country Championships at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, WA. The women's team raced first at 11am, followed by the men at 12pm. The course and the weather were in perfect conditions for a cross country race. There were fourteen team competing in the event, including the Umpqua RiverHawks. Both teams finished in 8th place.
The women's race had a strong field, with the top 11 runners all under 20:00. Freshman Bailey Wallack finished 12th with a personal best time of 20:17. Shortly behind her was sophomore Kristen Thomas who placed 20th with a time of 20:56, just shy of her own personal best. Sophomore Mariah Summers stepped up to run 21:43 (a significant personal record, with her previous best as 22:30). Freshmen Emma-Kate Crouse (24:01) and Dawn Cobb (26:35) rounded out the Hawks team by running personal best on the fast course as well.
The men's team also had a considerably strong field, but our RiverHawks held their own and all five guys ran personal best times. Lone sophomore Attreyu Pinard led the team with a time of 28:32. Freshmen Connor Deveny (29:21) and Paul Cervantes (29:33) battled to the finish line to be our second and third Hawks to finish. Rounding out the Hawks were freshmen Aiden Norris and Emmanuel Hasty with times of 32:23 and 33:57.
Wrapping up the season, the men's team landed one on the UCC XC All-Time Top Ten as Attreyu Pinard ran 28:32 to put 10th on the list. On the women's side two landed on the list. Bailey Wallack ran a time of 20:17 to place 7th on the list, and Kristen Thomas ran a time of 20:49 (NWAC South Region Championships; October 29, 2022) to place 9th on list.
The RiverHawks will compete next during the Track & Field season come March. Go Hawks!
