The Douglas County Public Works Department (DCPW) has reopened one lane of traffic on North Fork Smith River Road (County Road 48A) after rocks and debris from a landslide closed the road on Thursday, November 3, 2022. DCPW crews immediately responded to the scene and were able to clear debris reopening one lane of the road and allowing limited access through the area. Crews will continue to work on clearing the road over the next several days, in anticipation of reopening the road to both lanes by the end of next week.

A landslide occurred near milepost 6 on North Fork Smith River Road, which is located about 22 miles northeast of Reedsport, sometime between Wednesday night, November 2, and early Thursday morning, November 3, 2022, closing both lanes of travel due to large boulders and debris.

Safety is always a priority for the motoring public, as well as for our Public Works crews. During inclement weather and with the possibility of landslides taking place around the region, we are encouraging motorists to utilize TripCheck.com to access the most up-to-date information regarding closures and hazards. The single-lane closure and active work zone will impact drive times. We ask that motorists exercise caution or seek alternative routes if traveling through this area. Please follow and obey all posted signs, warnings, and flagging instructions. As with any construction or road project, unforeseen delays due to weather, equipment, and material availability could possibly extend the anticipated clean-up timeline. For more information, please contact Douglas County Public Works Department at (541) 440-4481.
